DIY Covered Deck Designs

The deck is a good place to relax. Sitting on the deck after a busy work from the office can capture beautiful views and can create a cozy atmosphere in your outdoor room. This can also add a spacious feeling to the house by smearing borders inside and out. Having a covered deck at home can protect you from the sunlight and rain that enters the area when spending your free time sitting and watching views outside of your home. Decks are economical as well and you can build covered deck designs without blowing your budget too much and as well expands the living area. The DIY process can do the job.

Covered decks can be done by following the instructions and plans below. The primary key to have a beautiful and successful building of a covered deck is by pre-planning.

Find a Location

Find a good location and the appropriate size of the covered deck that you want. Be sure that the location must be leveled to the ground.

Set the Foundation

Determine the number of floating foundations needed to build a covered deck. The floating foundation must sit in the upper ground and can hold the weight of the covered deck without the need of digging holes for the posts. The floating foundation is needed for each corner of the covered deck.

Set Up the Base Boards

After setting the piers of the deck’s foundation, the baseboards must be installed. Use 2×5 wood planks as the baseboards. Insert the boards to the foundation piers and then make a base that could carry a roof of the deck. Remember to insert the base boards in the opposite direction of the wood for the floor of the deck.

Create a Deck Floor

Now, you need to create a floor for your desired deck. Use wood flooring for your deck. Lay the wood planks in the baseboards towards the opposite direction by resting it on the baseboard top. After laying down the wood used for flooring, you can now fasten the wood with nails.

Post Installation

Now, install the posts for the deck. Use 10 foot wood posts. Secure these posts at every corner of the deck and also place a post in the middle portion so that the posts can hold the roof properly.

Attached the Boards

For the roof or cover of the deck, you need to attach the support boards to the posts. The 2×6 inch board must be attached to the house and be sure that the height must be even to the top of the deck’s post. Then, install the 2×6 inch boards as a support that extends from the board to the house up to the post’s end. Secure the support of the boards to the posts as well as to the wood and repeat the steps.

Install the Boards

Now, you need to install the boards to cover the entire deck. Fasten the boards so that it won’t fall and can cause harm.

Now, enjoy and sip a cup of coffee on your covered deck. You can also invite your friends to play chess having a cup of coffee.
