Local Guide

Today, the castle ruins are at the centre of the beautiful Eglinton Country Park, on the outskirts of Kilwinning. It’s an ideal place for a peaceful walk in the woodlands, around the loch or through the Clement Wilson Gardens. Other days out for families and the health conscious include the Irvine New Town Trail. This is a 12 mile loop used by many cyclists, joggers, walkers and dog owners, linking Eglinton Country Park, Girdle Toll, Bourtree Hill, Broomlands, Dreghorn and the Irvine Riverside.

The Ayrshire coast is also famous for its seaside golf courses, regularly used for The Open Championship, such as Turnberry, Troon and Prestwick. The Bogside Golf Course is in Kilwinning itself. For the future, a major regeneration plan is now in place to revitalise the main streets and businesses of Kilwinning.
